The Electric
Revelators were formed in Swansea, South Wales in
2004.
Originally called The Revelators, they are one of the
UK's leading blues bands & official support to The Animals.
The members are Gordon
Wride, Simon Gregory, Colin Goldring and Sam Goldring
Playing an electric set of Chicago, Texas and British
Blues (with an indie twist), they have performed (and been invited back)
at many of the leading UK & European Blues Festivals including the
Douro Blues Festival Portugal,
Blues On The Farm, Colne, Darlington
R/B, Abertillery, Tenby, Blaenau, Chicago Rock Festival Swansea, Mumbles
Jazz & Blues Festival and at venues such as The 100 Club (Oxford Street,
London), Bath Blues Club, Bristol Blues Club,
Cheltenham Blues Club, The Tawe Delta Swansea, The Point Cardiff, The
Toucan Club Cardiff, The Devalence Tenby, The Park & Dare Treorchy, The
Met Abertillery, The Beaufort Ebbw Vale, The Milkwood Jam Swansea.
Artists they have guested with include Eric Bibb, Walter
Trout, The Animals, The Yardbirds, Paul Jones, Coco Montoyo, Nine Below
Zero and in 2009 they were special guests to Dave 'Honeyboy' Edwards.
Recordings comprise an EP of four tracks called How Cold
Is The Valley (2006) and a full acoustic delta blues CD called Betrayal
Blues which included 4 original songs (2008).
You can also book Gordon Wride and Simon Gregory as a
stripped down delta blues duo playing a raucous set of Mississippi,
Chicago and originals.
The Electric Revelators were considered one of the best
bands at Blues On The Farm 2009: "Up There With The Best at the
Festival" (Julian Moores, promoter of the festival).
From a member of the audience at Park & Dare with The
Animals 2009: "Sensational and a real blues treat"
And, at the Milkwood Swansea 2009 with Honeyboy Edwards:
"Absolutely Fabulous" (Liz Aiken, photographer and writer)
Gordon Wride guitar/vocals
The original member of The
Electric Revelators, born and bred in the Amman Valley, Cwmgors
(John Cale country) - he
now lives in Swansea.
Gordon attended university in the
90s and gaining a BA(Hons) and a Diploma in European Humanities, he took
to the UK blues trail and his knowledge
of the blues has brought him to the attention of many international
media companies which included a stint with BBC
Radio Wales as a presenter for The True Blues Show
and working on research projects for Blues Festivals in Wales.
Gordon also runs the international
music management business, Slim's Blues, which has worked and
collaborated with some of the best blues artists who are touring
currently.
Also, Gordon has written for many
magazines as a feature writer for the blues - he continues in this role
to keep promoting the genre he loves so much!
Gordon Wride and The Electric Revelators are constantly touring the UK’s
and Europe’s blues festivals and blues clubs. In 2004/05 Gordon toured
the UK with Li’l Dave Thompson (USA) and was his special guest at
100 Club
London in 2005.
In 2007, once again Gordon
criss-crossed the UK and Portugal with his band and as a solo artist –
Gordon is a regular on the Portuguese jazz and blues scene, playing
regularly there for the last four years,
Gordon Wride has been playing guitar for over 20 years and 10 years ago
decided to throw himself completely into playing slide; the last two
decades has been a mission of discovery and he has immersed himself into
pre-war blues with the study of techniques of artists such as Robert
Johnson, Son House, Charley Patton, Muddy Water, Elmore James and Howlin
Wolf.
Gordon also played a leading role in the play 'The Abolition Of Slavery'
in 2007, the event attracted over 1200 people including the minister of
Wales and many African dignitaries.
Simon
Gregory: Harp,
bass, lap slide, washboard & 'Tawe Delta' delta beat box.
Born in the Midlands UK, he attended
Swansea University. Simon Gregory has astounded audiences as a talented
multi-instrumentalist playing Chicago harp, lap steel, percussion and
bass - Simon joined The Electric Revelators in 2007 just as it became a
stripped down duo from a five piece band.
Simon also played on the first full CD
'Betrayal Blues' and was instrumental in producing and arranging most of
the tracks - stand out moments for Simon on the CD are Simon's harp on
the title track written by Gordon Wride 'Betrayal Blues' and the
mesmerising slide solo on John The Revelator.
Simon as also travelled
extensively throughout the UK with Gordon Wride at Darlington R/B
Festival, Bristol Jazz & Blues clubs, Tenby Blues Festival, Abertillery
Blues Festival, The Abertillery Met, The Mumbles Jazz & Blues Festival.
He looks forward to many more.
Simon and Gordon have made a pact to carry
on playing together, even though they are going to be in different parts
of the world in the near future. Gordon is working more and more in
Portugal
with blues and jazz promoters and Simon will be heading towards Europe
or, maybe, even further afield!
What we do know about Simon as a musician
is that he is forever raising the bar and always looking for new
techniques. He is never happy until he has got it just right!
But, at the moment, Simon is committed to the band, and is committed to
taking the project even further.
